People may think that all shoes can be used for running. As much as this is true, each person should still have the proper running shoes especially if running is a part of his daily routine. Running is a quite strenuous physical activity and running using shoes that are not equipped for the said exercise may lead to injuries or physical damages. Thus one should chose the correct shoes for running and this depends on the foot type and the level of pronation of the person.
Foot type and level of pronation can be determined using the wet test where you should stand on paper with wet feet and observe the imprint left. Normal pronators also have a normal arched foot which is determined by an imprint having a distinct curve on the inside of the foot. Overpronators have low arched feet and the imprint shows almost all of the foot. Underpronators have high arched feet and there is only a thin connection between the heel and the toe on the imprint. The level of pronation of the person also determines the shoe shape that should be used when choosing the correct running shoes. Overpronators should use straight-shaped shoes; underpronators, curved shoes and normal pronators, semi-curved ones.
People who overpronate and who have low-arched feet should use motion-control running shoes since these can help in keeping feet from excessive rolling inwards since they are control-oriented shoes. Using straight shaped shoes also gives support to the foot at its maximum level which is important for people who overpronate. Cushioned ones are for people who underpronate and have high-arched feet because these have absorb shock which allows the feet to roll inward. The curved shape also encourages motion of the feet. Lastly, normal arched feet and pronation should use stability running shoes since they are durable and gives proper support. Semi-curved shoes also don’t control motion of the foot too much.
